Print

Printed with a technique known as “viscosity inking” – inks are mixed with varying viscosities by adding linseed oil to the oil-based relief inks. By deliberately creating an incompatibility, the inks allow interesting patterns to form in the application. Sections of the ink were also influenced by the use of cleaning solvents to increase this effect.

It is interesting to see how these inks have interacted with the 3D printed type piece – the infill pattern used is still clearly visible in certain sections (as a clear print), while in others it is obscured by the inks. There are also sections where the cleaning solvents have allowed the ink to “bleed” into the gaps in the 3D print.

Materiality

This type plate was printed in PLA with a 0.4mm nozzle, using the Octogram pattern.
